Our Church and Our Community

St. Andrew’s is a welcoming church at the spiritual heart of a caring community. We offer a wide range of services, aimed at catering for all ages and tastes, including informal family services, Common Worship Parish Communion and traditional Matins and Evensong. A morning service takes place every Sunday, with Evensong on the first Sunday of each month, and a mid-week Communion service on Wednesday mornings. Our new Benefice Choir leads the singing at Matins and Parish Communion services. Full details of service times can be found in the diary section of this website.

Activities for children are currently provided during the communion service on the first Sunday of each month. We hope to expand this to activities and/or Sunday school every Sunday, beginning in the new year. Please check back for updates!

Regular service patterns are enriched by the addition of many special services, including Christingle, Candlelit Carol Service, Crib Service, Candlemas, Mothering Sunday, Good Friday Walk of Witness, Rogation Walk, Harvest Festival and Remembrance Sunday.

The church’s doors are open from about 9 o’clock in the morning to dusk every day.  Visitors come from all over the world to see the Tiffany window, the only one in a church in England.  Others come to pray, to think or to enjoy a few minutes of calm and quietness in the beautiful surroundings.

Our church community is very much a team – from the ordained and lay members of our ministry team to bellringers, choir, cleaners, flower arrangers, fundraisers, heritage committee, house groups, organist, PCC members, outreach team, readers, refreshment servers, sidesmen and Sunday school leaders.

In addition to our services, the church is a venue for community events, including regular meetings of an informal singing group, amateur and professional concerts, cream teas, Christmas Tree festivals, Lent lunches and Save the Children card and cake sales. All three schools in Kimbolton use St. Andrew’s for events such as Carol Services and Harvest Festivals; and visiting groups enjoy tours of the church followed by tea.

Members of our church play a full part in the life of the local community, with active participation in many groups, including Bytes Café, Indoor Bowls, Kimbolton (Charitable) Trust, Local History Society, Luncheon Club, Mandeville (Village) Hall, Pilates, Primary Academy reading volunteers, Probus, Royal British Legion, Save the Children, Welcome Club, WI….and many others.

With so many community activities, plus a wide range of shops and services, including a medical centre and a fire station, Kimbolton has the appearance of a small town; but in fact the total population is only around 1500, no larger than a medium-sized village. A recent visitor summed up Kimbolton’s unique character:

“When I first walked along the High Street and saw all the shops and businesses, I thought Kimbolton was a town; then everyone spoke to me, and I knew it was a village.”
